Fire underneath Edinburgh Road car park ramp in Ashford town centre put out by fire crews

A bonfire burning underneath a car park entrance in Ashford was put out by firefighters this afternoon.

The area underneath the access ramp into the Edinburgh Road multi-storey car park in the town centre was burning.

One fire engine was sent to the scene and the crew quickly doused the flames.

Staff from the nearby Wilko store raised the alarm shortly after 2.30pm when smoke was seen billowing from underneath the ramp.

The area has recently been used by homeless people sleeping rough.

Police were also on the scene but the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
