Ashford sky glows red as fire rips through industrial unit at Godinton Way Industrial estate

An abandoned industrial unit was badly damaged by fire last night.

The blaze started just after 7pm and before long one unit on the Godinton Way Industrial estate was well alight, threatening nearby buildings.

At its height, three fire crews and a water truck were at the scene as firefighters battled to stop the flames spreading.

Firefighters using breathing gear and hose reels to bring the fire under control, taking water both from the water truck and a nearby hydrant.

Crews succeeded in containing the blaze and spent just over an hour at the scene.

The units are derelict and disused and no one was injured.

It is not yet known if the fire is suspicious.

A spokesman from Kent Police confirmed they attended the incident and said: "We were contacted by KFRS at 20:42 last night.

"An assessment is underway to determine whether the fire was deliberately lit or accidental."
