A CLUBBER smashed a bottle over another man’s head in a row over his girlfriend.

Mark Coster, 21, admitted causing actual bodily harm after the argument turned ugly at the Chicago Rock Cafe in Canterbury in April.

Charlotte Collett, defending at Canterbury Magistrates' Court, said Coster, of North Pends, Kennington, Ashford, had stepped in to protect his girlfriend after she became upset by the victim’s unwanted attention.

Mrs Collett said two groups bumped into each other on the dancefloor that evening.

Afterwards, the victim continued to wave and smile at Coster’s girlfriend.

“She told the victim he was not as hard as he thought he was and would get hurt,” Mrs Collett said. “My client stepped in to protect his girlfriend. He is very remorseful but it was not unprovoked.”

The magistrates sent the case for sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court at a later date. Coster was released on conditional bail.
