A Kent house featured in a new TV show last night which took Twitter by storm.

This is My House centred around a restored barn in Ashford which has been transformed into a family home.

The premise of the BBC show, presented by Stacey Dooley, saw four people desperately trying to convince a panel of judges that the house was theirs and they were the real 'Fern Maxted'.

They cooked up back stories in their attempt to prove the other three were fakes, and they were the homeowner.

The celebrity judges - Bill Bailey, Emily Atack, Judi Love, Jamali Maddix and guest panelist Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen - watched clips of the contestants and then had to decide who was the real deal.

If they get it right, the homeowner wins a cash prize. If they get it wrong, the homeowner wins nothing.

Of the four people claiming to be the owner, there was an LA society girl who said she bought her Ashford home on the internet, a mum of three who has a moral meltdown when someone finds a saucy bottle opener in her drawers, a former PR man who claims that Fern is short for Fernando and someone who is so adamant that she is the real homeowner that she is prepared to lick the furniture to prove it.

At one point the American 'Fern' insulted Ashford by saying she thought it was an "international hub" before she moved there, believing the station was in fact an airport.

She said later, however, she realised the town was more a 'glorified bus stop'.

She also criticised the options for hair salons by saying: "No one in town knows how to do a good foil."

People reacted on Twitter to the new show, with some calling it terrible but brilliant TV.

And Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw said: "Ok #thisismyhouse is absolutely insane and I’m absolutely involved."
