Folkestone Invicta back on top of the Ryman League Division 1 South table

Folkestone are back on top of Ryman League Division 1 South despite confirmation of their 10-point deduction.

The league committee had ratified the points deduction last Thursday as punishment for Invicta having to invoke a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) to pay off their £170,000 debts.

But Neil Cugley’s side again shrugged off the club’s off-the-field problems by battling to a 1-0 win at Dulwich on Tuesday – a victory which lifted Invicta back on top of the table by a point from Croydon Athletic, although the latter now have two matches in hand.

Cugley (pictured) said: "It’s hard not to think about what a great position we would be in now with those 10 points.

"But like they have done all season, the lads just got on with it and it was another very satisfying win for us."

Invicta will be on their travels again this weekend with a trip to Met Police. But then, again weather permitting, come two home games in a row against Eastbourne Town on Tuesday and Leatherhead a week on Saturday.

Striker Simon Austin will be unavailable for all three games because he starts a three-match suspension this weekend, but Cugley hopes that otherwise he will have a full squad to pick from and he has also increased his options by bringing Roy Guiver back to Cheriton Road.

The much-travelled Guiver, who can play at centre-half or as a target man, has already had spells with Hythe and Lordswood this season, and contacted Cugley after deciding to leave the Bulmers Cider Kent League strugglers.

Cugley said: "It will be handy to have Roy around because of all the games we have got coming up."
