Edinburgh Road car park in Ashford reopens after six months

A damaged multi-storey car park has finally reopened after six months.

Drivers were allowed back inside Ashford's Edinburgh Road car park this morning - but only one of the site's three lifts is working.

The car park had closed in July after the ceiling began to fall apart on the second floor.

It closed immediately with some cars still inside.

Before this, the lifts were closed off following a safety inspection.

Today, the lift closest to Wilko is operating, while the others are due to be fully operational by Friday.

The reopening of the 289-space facility couldn't have come sooner for traders who suffered because of the lack of parking in the town.

Business owners in the area reported a fall in footfall as Edinburgh Road was closed and Park Mall car park was partially closed.

The ground floor of Park Mall reopened after 10 months when Edinburgh Road shut, but the top floor remains out of bounds.

There is no date as to when Park Mall is expected to fully reopen
