College all clear after legionnaires tests

A lecturer has been tested for legionnaires disease after bacteria were found in the water supply at South Kent College, Jemmett Road, Ashford, during a routine inspection last Tuesday.

Legionella bacteria were found in two outlets in the main block of the college, which includes a hair salon. The system was immediately flushed and the college was back to normal by the following day.

A member of staff went to the William Harvey Hospital where he tested negatively for the disease - which can be deadly.

He was found to be suffering from a cold. The Health Protection Acency was informed.
