Charity cyclists head off to Barcelona

Three keen cyclists from the Ashford area braved the heatwave to set off from Dover docks on a sponsored ride to Barcelona.
The 1,000 mile journey, covering 80 miles per day, will take Tom Carlton and Laurence Harvey from Bethersden and Danny Shearing from Ashford across France and into Spain, where they are due to arrive on July 12.
They aim to raise at least £2,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research, most of which has already been achieved.
They have received help from one of their sponsors, Barcelona Flats, which is providing them with accommodation when they arrive in Barcelona, a finishing line and are also publicising their ride in Spain.
En route, they will be carrying all kit on their bikes and staying in the cheapest accommodation they have been able to find.
Tom Carlton, 41, said: “This has taken months of planning and great teamwork.
“People’s generosity has been overwhelming for this very worthy cause.”
Laurence and Danny,18, who have just finished their sixth form studies at Norton Knatchbull and Homewood schools respectively.
