Bluetongue disease hits Kent farm

BLUETONGUE has hit Ashford, with one case reported in the area today.

Kent NFU has just confirmed the outbreak and was itself waiting to learn more details.

Chairman Chris Older said: "We understand there has been one case of bluetongue at a farm near Ashford.

"At this stage we don't know whether it involves cattle or sheep or where the farm is."

Defra was due to prepare a statement this afternoon.
