DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in a public park.

The incident happened while girl was sitting alone on a bench by a footpath that runs through Ashford's Victoria Park.

She was approached by a man who began talking to her and then took her into some nearby bushes where the assault took place.

The man is described as dark skinned, aged between 30-40, about 5ft tall and of medium build. He had spiky brown hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a purple Umbro shirt, black trousers and brown shoes.

Police say the girl lives in the Ashford area. The incident occurred on Monday, July 30, at around 5.30pm.

Det Insp Andy Chapman said: “We are very keen to speak to anyone who recognises this person."
